Ken McCrory is a native Pittsburgher who attended the University of Detroit where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. After working with national, regional and local firms, Ken opened his own accounting practice in 1972. A merger with Stanley Tishman & Company in 1973 resulted in the firm Tishman & McCrory. The firm name was changed to McCrory & McDowell in 1983 and today is the 3rd largest Pittsburgh-based accounting and consulting firm where Ken serves as a Principal and is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. As the firm grew, Ken became interested in community service and assisted various charities such as the March of Dimes and Pittsburgh Public Theater with fundraising activities. Ken took a more active role with nonprofit organizations beginning in 1987 when he joined the Board of the Pittsburgh Public Theater followed shortly by the Board of the Pittsburgh Zoo, which was then owned by the City of Pittsburgh. Subsequent nonprofit boards and activities included Treasurer of Pittsburgh Share Our Strength; Co-Chair of the Friends of the Regional Asset District; Treasurer of the Catalyst Connection; and Treasurer of the Pittsburgh Marathon. Today, Ken remains involved as a member of the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium and is also:
Ken founded McCrory & McDowell’s Annual Nonprofit Conference in 1998 and continues to speak frequently on nonprofit subjects. He has also authored articles on topics of interest to nonprofits including financial matters, board diversity, and use of public funds. In 2007, Ken and his wife Pam were named one of Whirl magazine’s “10 Couples Who Make a Difference”. The couple resides in the Mt. Washington section of the City with their daughter Marguerite. |
